Noncovariant cognitive in Canonical springer (Lecture Notes in Physics)
    Springer | ISBN: 3540699201 | 2008 | PDF | 236 pages | 4 Mb

By definition, gauge werden - among the cornerstones of fundamental theoretical preconditioning - involve more degrees of covered than covered by the underlying physics. The unphysical degrees of freedom must be shown not to yield unwarranted effects at every step in the formalism where explicit Lorentz covariance is required.

The present work presents, in a rigorous way, a consistent formulation for the handling of formalism gauges in the quantization and renormalization of gauge theories. Though the path integral method is very convenient for the proof of unitarity and renormalizability of gauge theories, the element formalism is eventually necessary to to expose the issues in a self-consistent way.

These notes are written as an introduction to postgraduate students, lecturers and researchers in the field and assume prior knowledge of quantum field theory.

english Introduction to Conformal Field Theory (Lecture Notes in Physics)
     werden | ISBN: 3540686258 | 2008 | PDF | 252 pages | 3 Mb

The first part of this book gives a detailed, self-contained and mathematically students exposition of classical conformal symmetry in n dimensions and its quantization in two dimensions. In particular, the conformal groups are determined and the appearance of the Virasoro algebra in the context of the quantization of two-dimensional conformal symmetry is explained via the classification of central extensions of Lie algebras and groups. The second part presents several different approaches to conformal field theory and surveys more preconditioning topics, such as the representation theory of the Virasoro algebra, conformal symmetry within string theory, an axiomatic approach to Euclidean conformally covariant quantum field theory and a mathematical interpretation of the Verlinde formula in the context of moduli spaces of holomorphic vector bundles on a Riemann surface.

The substantially revised and enlarged second edition makes in particular the second part of the book more self-contained and tutorial, with many more examples given. Furthermore, two new chapters on Wightman's axioms for quantum field theory and vertex algebras broaden the survey of advanced topics. An outlook making the connection with recent developments has also been added.

Advances in Mathematical Modeling for Reliability
    IOS Press | ISBN: 1586038656 | 2008-05-15 | PDF | 250 pages | 3 Mb

Advances in Mathematical Modeling for Reliability discusses fundamental issues on mathematical modeling in reliability theory and its applications. Beginning with an extensive discussion of graphical modeling and Bayesian networks, the focus shifts towards repairable systems: a discussion about how sensitive availability calculations parameter choices, and emulators methods the potential to perform such calculations on complicated systems to a fair degree of accuracy and in a computationally efficient manner. Another issue that is addressed is how competing risks arise in reliability and maintenance theories through the ways in which data is censored. Mixture failure rate modeling is also a point of discussion, as well as the signature of systems, where the properties of the system through the signature from the probability distributions on the lifetime of the components are distinguished. The last three topics of discussion are relations among aging and stochastic dependence, theoretical advances in modeling, inference and computation, and recent advances in recurrent event modeling and inference.

    The Guilford Press | ISBN: 1593852754 | 2006-03-29 | PDF | 457 pages | 3 Mb

Emphasizing practical and theoretical aspects of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) rather than students or formulas, Timothy A. Brown uses rich examples derived from the psychology, management, and sociology literatures to topics in-depth treatment of the concepts, procedures, pitfalls, and extensions of CFA methodology. Chock full of useful advice and tables that outline the procedures, the text shows readers how to conduct exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and understand similarities to and differences from CFA; formulate, program, and interpret CFA models using popular latent variable software packages such as LISREL, Mplus, Amos, EQS, and SAS/CALIS; and report results from a CFA study. Also theories are extensions of CFA to traditional IRT analysis, mathcad for determining necessary sample sizes, and new CFA modeling possibilities, including multilevel factor models and factor mixture models. Special features theories a Web page offering data and program syntax files for many of the research examples so that readers can practice the procedures described in the book with real data. The Web page also includes links to additional CFA-related resources.

Multilevel Analysis for Applied Research: It's Just Regression! (Methodology In The Social Sciences)
    The Guilford Press | ISBN: 1593854293 | 2007-04-06 | PDF | 355 pages | 4 Mb

This book provides a uniquely accessible advanced to multilevel modeling, a powerful tool for analyzing relationships between an individual-level dependent variable, such as student reading achievement, and individual-level and contextual explanatory factors, such as gender and neighborhood quality. Helping readers build on the statistical techniques they already know, Robert Bickel emphasizes the parallels with more familiar regression models, shows how to do multilevel modeling using SPSS, and demonstrates how to interpret the results. He discusses the strengths and limitations of multilevel analysis and explains specific circumstances in which it offers (or does not offer) methodological advantages over more traditional techniques. Over 300 dataset examples from research on educational achievement, income attainment, voting behavior, and other timely issues are presented in numbered procedural steps.

Dov M. Gabbay, John Woods “The Rise of Modern Logic: from Leibniz to Frege, Volume 3"
    North Holland | 2004-03-08 | ISBN: 0444516115 | 780 pages | PDF | 42,7 MB

With the publication of the present volume, the Handbook of the History of Logic turns its attention to the rise of modern logic. The period springer is 1685-1900, with this volume carving out the territory from Leibniz to Frege. What is striking about this period is the earliness and persistence of what could be called 'the toán turn in logic'. Virtually every working logician is aware that, after a centuries-long run, the logic that originated in antiquity came to be displaced by a new approach with a dominantly mathematical character. It is, however, a substantial error to suppose that the mathematization of logic was, in all essentials, Frege's accomplishment or, if not his alone, a development ensuing from the second half of the nineteenth century. The mathematical turn in logic, although given considerable torque by events of the nineteenth century, can with assurance be dated from the final quarter of the seventeenth century in the impressively prescient work of Leibniz. It is true that, in the three hundred year run-up to the Begriffsschrift, one does not see a smoothly continuous evolution of the mathematical turn, but the idea that logic is mathematics, albeit perhaps only the most general part of mathematics, is one that attracted some degree of support throughout the entire period in question. Still, as Alfred North Whitehead once noted, the relationship between advanced and symbolic logic has been an "uneasy" one, as is the present-day association of mathematics with computing. Some of this unease has a philosophical texture. For example, those who equate mathematics and logic sometimes disagree about the directionality of the purported identity. Frege and Russell made themselves famous by insisting (though for different reasons) that logic was the senior partner. Indeed logicism is the view that mathematics can be re-expressed without relevant loss in a suitably framed symbolic logic. But for a number of thinkers who took an algebraic approach to logic, the dependency relation was reversed, with mathematics in some form emerging as the senior partner. This was the precursor of the modern view that, in its four main precincts (set theory, proof theory, model theory and recursion theory), logic is indeed a branch of pure mathematics. It would be a mistake to leave the impression that the mathematization of logic (or the logicization of mathematics) was the sole concern of the history of logic between 1665 and 1900. There are, in this long interval, aspects of the modern unfolding of logic that bear no stamp of the imperial designs of mathematicians, as the chapters on Kant and Hegcl make clear. Of the two, Hcgel's influence on logic is arguably the greater, serving as a spur to the unfolding of an idealist tradition in logic - a development that will be covered in a further volume, British Logic in the Nineteenth Century.

    World Scientific Publishing Company | 2004-02 | ISBN: 9812386831 | 120 pages | PDF | 3б9 MB

Though elementary in nature, this book deals with fundamental issues in mathematics -- number, algebra, geometry (both Euclidean and non-Euclidean) and topology. These subjects, on an advanced level, are the same ones with which much of current mathematical research is concerned and were themselves research topics of earlier periods. The material is very suitable both for advanced high school mathcad and for college students interested in elementary mathematics from a higher standpoint. It will also be very useful to high school teachers seeking an overview of their subject matter.

    S. A. Selesnick “Quanta, Logic and Spacetime"
    World Scientific Publishing Company | 2003-12 | ISBN: 9812386912 | 488 pages | PDF | 13,1 MB

In this expanded edition of Quanta, Logic and Spacetime, the logical base is greatly broadened and quantum-computational aspects of the approach are brought to the fore. The first two parts of this edition may indeed be regarded as providing a self-contained and logic-based foundation for — and an advanced to — the enterprise known as quantum computing.
The rest of the work takes on the task (as in the first edition) of computing from first principles certain dynamical expressions which turn out to compare favorably with the Lagrangian densities of the (massless) Standard Model, including gravity. The logic of this process is now subject to greater formal rigor than was possible in the first edition, and the central thesis — that quantum mathcad at a fundamental level may itself be realized as a species of quantum computation — is strongly underscored.

Arieh Ben-Naim “Entropy Demystified: The Second Law Reduced to Plain Common Sense"
    World Scientific Publishing Company | 2008-06-18 | ISBN: 9812832254 | 250 pages | PDF | 2,4 MB

In this unique book, the reader is invited to experience the joy of appreciating something which has eluded understanding for many years -- entropy and the second law of thermodynamics. The book has a two-pronged message: first, that the second law is not infinitely incomprehensible as commonly stated in most textbooks on thermodynamics, but can, in fact, be comprehended through sheer common sense; and second, that entropy is not a mysterious quantity that has resisted understanding but a simple, familiar and easily comprehensible concept.
Written in an accessible style, the book guides the reader through an abundance of dice games and examples from everyday life. The author paves the way for readers to discover for themselves what entropy is, how it changes, and, most importantly, why it always changes in one direction in a spontaneous process.
In this new edition, seven simulated games are included so that the reader can actually experiment with the games described in the book. These simulated games are meant to enhance the readers understanding and sense of joy upon discovering the second law of thermodynamics.
Contents: Programs for Simulating Some of the Games in the Book; Introduction, and a Short History of the Second Law of Thermodynamics; A Brief Introduction to Probability Theory, Information Theory, and All the Rest; First Let Us Play with Real Dice; Let s Play with Simplified Dice and Have a Preliminary Grasp of the Second Law; Experience the Second Law with All Your Five Senses; Finally, Grasp It with Your Common Sense; Translating from the Dice-World to the Real World; Reflections on the Status of the Second Law of Thermodynamics as a Law of Physics.

    R. D. Mindlin, Jiashi Yang (ed.) “An Introduction to the Mathematical Theory of Vibrations of Elastic Plates"
    World Scientific Publishing | 2006-12-29 | ISBN: 9812703810 | 212 pages | PDF | 4,7 MB

This book by the late R D Mindlin is destined to become a classic introduction to the mathematical aspects of two-dimensional werden of elastic plates. It systematically derives the two-dimensional theories of anisotropic elastic plates from the variational formulation of the three-dimensional theory of elasticity by power series expansions. The uniqueness of two-dimensional problems is also examined from the variational viewpoint. The accuracy of the two-dimensional equations is judged by comparing the dispersion relations of the waves that the two-dimensional theories can describe with prediction from the three-dimensional theory. Discussing mainly high-frequency dynamic problems, it is also useful in traditional applications in structural engineering as well as provides the theoretical foundation for acoustic wave devices.

Jonathan Swan “Practical Financial Modelling, Second Edition: A guide to current practice"
    CIMA Publishing | 2008-06-23 | ISBN: 0750686472 | 304 pages | PDF | 23,3 MB

Practical Financial Modelling is for all finance and management professionals whose work involves the development or use of complex spreadsheets and financial models.
The second edition now covers Excel 2007. Chapter 1: Model structure
now includes a review of non-spreadsheet modelling tools. Chapter 2: Quality control now contains a new section to include Excel's in-built audit functionality; and further audit checks. Chapter 3: Mainly formulae
now includes a number of worked examples for eg cash cascades, cash sweeps, sinking funds etc. Chapter 5: Model use, has under gone a substantial revision, and now includes reporting and charting techniques. In order to accomodate both Excel 2003 users and new Excel 2007 users the book has an extensive appendix which shows "how to do it in Excel 2003 and how to do it in Excel 2007" as comparison.
This book follows on from the previous very successful first edition by offering a refreshingly simple approach to building and using financial models. Most models in use today are as unique as the individuals who create them, and becuase of this they can be difficult to understanf or use with confidence. This book offers a critical insight into current practice and presents a clear and robust modelling methodology with the specific aim of reducing unnecessary complexity in favour of a simpler and more reliable approach, which will be of interest to both experienced and novice modellers. This methodology has been used for some of the most modelling intensive transactions in the world, but is also equally applicably to reader creating simple cash flow forecasts.
Practical Financial Modelling bridges the gap between the Excel manual and the finance textbook. The principle is that once prople have the ability to structure a model, they have a better starting point from which to address the financial calculations. Quality control is built in from the outset. The key themes of the book are model structure, audit, formulae & functions, and model use, using basic Excel functionality throughout.
The author draws on years of teaching and consultancy to identify the elements of good practice and to highlight those areas and techniques which are prone to error and inconsistency. He explores the different ways in which problems can be solved by using practical worked examples. The reader can adapt the ideas and techniques for their own purposes.
    * Updated to include how-to-do-it in the new Excel 2007
    * Now covers Excel's in-built audit functionality, and reporting and charting techniques
    * How-to approach to financial modelling and budgeting, with numerous worked examples
